30th Jan 2011 - Dungarvan 10miler

Sunday afternoon also saw the 20th annual Quantum Life Dungarvan 10mile road race take place with a record 1050 runners on the day.  There was a very competitive field and with perfect running conditions, the course record was broken by both the men and the ladies.

Jim Baldwin was first home for the club in 37th place in an excellent time of 59.01, winning 1st prize for over 40’s.  Martin Kirwan, who had spent the morning marshalling at our club training duathlon, was not expecting anything special from himself as he was not feeling 100% but he soon got into things and managed to run his fastest 10mile time yet, to finish 46th overall in 59.40mins.

Michael Moloney was next home in 67.01mins with Martin Flynn not far behind in 68.48mins.  Tom Brennan and Henry Moloney were only seconds apart to finish in 69.24mins and 69.35mins with Shelly Brennan just 1 second ahead of John Brennan at 73.06mins and 73.07mins respectively.

Derek Nolan has been training hard recently and it paid off with a brilliant time of 74.37mins with Paul Hallahan just seconds behind in 74.56 and Siobhan Dunphy coming home in 76.25.  Ger Hearne has also been training hard over the winter and was delighted with his time of 79.13mins with Annette O’Mahoney finishing in 91.40mins.

Aidan McCarthy had to pull out of the race due to injury.
