17th September 2011 - Victory for Season Finale

The last few races of the season are taking place at the moment, dotted all over Ireland with the Blackwater Sprint distance triathlon taking place in Fermoy.  Over 200 athletes lined up for this annual race with our very own Chris Mintern and Michael Moloney among them.  Chris had a great start to emerge out of the water in 1^st place but never eased up as he had stiff competition particularly from one of Ireland’s most eminent and renowned triathles, Trevor Woods, one of Chris’s idol’s.  Chris was made work hard right up to the end as it came to a sprint finish between the two, with Chris claiming the victory in 1.05.07.  This brings the tally of victories for Chris to 5 so far this year, with 3 course records. Michael Moloney also had a great race to finish 15^th overall in 1.16.01.

That was Chris’s final triathlon for this year but he did not hang up his runners just yet as the following weekend he had a 2^nd place finish in the 3000m at the European Club Junior Championships Track and Field in Portugal. A great year so far the talented junior.
