Week 11

We were back to our original course (Airport rd) again this week for the final few weeks of the TT.  Everyone set a new pb there tonight so it shows how much people have improved over the summer.  Now is the time to see how much you have improved and to get that elusive pb so come along for the next few weeks.  We only have 2 more weeks left of the TT but if people want it to carry on for a few more then that's fine, so long as we get a few people volunteering to marshal.

Week 9

Well done the the 4 people who turned up to our TT tonight in the rain.  The rain actually stopped for the TT and started again straight afterwards so we were lucky. Everyone was slower than their fastest time due to the strong winds but Kyle was only 20secs slower which is very good! Bob Cowman made tonight his debut for this course.

Next week are back in Portlaw for another go at the hill. To give people a proper cycle, some of us are meeting at the Top garage at 6pm for anyone who wants to cycle out, meet others in Kilmeaden at 6.20pm at the lay-by after Donnacha's pub before the roundabout - that will be about 25miles round trip from Waterford.  TT starts at 7pm at the bottom of Church hill and finishes at 5 cross roads (just take a left there for 100m).

Keep an eye out here for the location of the TT for the following week.

Week 7 - 13.3mile loop

This week for week 7 we were back for our 2nd week at our new TT location meeting just outside the Top Garage at Butlerstown and do a loop of Orchardstown, Tramore, and back to Waterford, back to the start. 13.3 miles in total.  Very windy night with no records set by anyone apart from Derek Nolan who took 2mins off his previous time.  (Must be the TT bike).  Kyle Barrett managed to find the only part of the road that had either glass or thorns on it as he got a puncture (2nd time in a row here!)  and had to be rescued.

Week 6 - Hill TT

Next week (Tues 31st) we will be doing our TT in Portlaw starting at the bottom of Church hill to 5 cross roads & turn left here to finish on the High road .  It's approx 2.5 miles in total so hearts, legs & lungs will be under pressure. TT will start at 7pm sharp.

To give people a proper cycle, some of us are meeting at the Top garage at 6pm for anyone who wants to cycle out, meet anyone in Kilmeaden at 6.20pm at the lay-by after Donnacha's pub before the roundabout - that will be about 25miles round trip from Waterford.

After 1 week in Portlaw we will resume time trialing on our new 13.3mile course for another 3 weeks. This time we will meet just outside the Top Garage at Butlerstown and do a loop of Orchardstown, Tramore, and back to Waterford, back to the start.

Week 3
With 3 weeks gone already in our club cycle time trials, we have had almost 40 cyclists take part at some stage with lots of pb’s being set so early in the season.  We are still doing the 10mile route for the moment with next Tues being the last one there for a while.  We will do 1 week of a hill TT in Portlaw and then move to a new 12mile route for a few weeks.  Martin Kirwan leads the board at the moment with 22.50mins with Davin Power at 23.22mins and Shane Scadding at 23.30mins.  Olive Costello is the fastest of the ladies with 30.26mins with Caroline Russell at 30.42mins and Norma Goggin at 30.55mins.

Week 1

We resumed our cycle Time Trials last Tuesday evening with a huge turnout from the club, all eager to test themselves and push hard to see where they stand.  25 cyclists, some with TT bikes, aero helmets and deep rimmed wheels started off, with 30secs intervals, slowest first, fastest last, to do the 10mile route.  Many either broke their times from last year or were very close which is great for so early in the season.  Fastest times on the night were Martin Kirwan 22.50mins, Shane Scadding 23.30mins & David Quigley (Comeragh CC) 23.36mins.  Olive Costello had the fastest ladies time of 30.46mins with Caroline Russell at 31.11mins and Annette O’Mahony at 34.30mins. The overall records are safe for this week but it is only a matter of time.  We will be doing this course for the next 3 weeks and then move to a different course for a while to keep things interesting

Cycle Time Trials resuming

Our club cycle time trials will be resuming again this year, taking place every Tuesday, starting at 6.30pm at Farronshoneen (Williamstown) roundabout.  For the first 4 weeks we will do the usual 10mile route (out past the airport and back).  After that we will do a different route to make things more interesting.  Last year, records were broken for both our 10mile and 18mile routes with Robin Kelly (Comeragh CC) posting the fastest 10mile time at 22.16mins with Martin Kirwan being the fastest club member just a few seconds behind at 22.41mins with Martin also holding the record for the fastest club member for the 18miler at 42.20mins. The overall record is held by Keith Gater (Comeragh CC) at 41.16mins. There will be plenty of people looking to smash those records again this year.  Please arrive early to allow time to sign on and get organised.
