30th July 2010 - Beast of the East as tough as ever

Wicklow Triathlon Club hosted their annual Olympic distance triathlon based at Lough Dan in Co. Wicklow.  This race is up there on the most difficult race list with almost 500m of climbing and some sharp descents and bends on the 40k bike.  The 1500m swim comprised 1 lap in the lake with the 1st 2k of the run being a tough uphill battle also.  270 athletes from all over Ireland lined up for the early morning start with 3 different wave starts with Stefan Green and Michael Carroll in wave 2 and Omar Al-Hadeedi in wave 3.

Stefan had a brilliant swim posting the 21st fastest time of the day.  He lost a few places on the bike but gained them back again with a strong run to finish 18th overall in 2.29.52, claiming this to be the toughest race he has ever done.  Omar was delighted with his race also to finish in 3.07.17.  Michael had an eye infection so decided not to do the swim but carried on when this section was over to do the bike and run, considered to be the toughest parts of the race so he was happy with his day’s performance.
