15th July 2010 -Barry McCarthy Memorial swim

Last weekend also saw the annual charity swim take place in Carrick which this year was held in memory of Barry McCarthy who sadly passed away last year.  Barry was one of the main organisers of this swim each year and was also a founding member of Carrick Triathlon Club.

There were 3 different distances to choose from, 500m, 750m and 1500m, all downstream or swimmers could do all 3, which many did.  There was a great turnout for the swim considering the torrential rain which had fallen all day and continued to fall during the swims.  We had 12 hardy members take part (including Caroline Russell who had done the Triathlon in Cahir earlier on in the day..she really is getting used to this swimming!)

Chris Mintern, who had also been busy earlier in the day taking part in the Junior Aquathlon Championships in Portlaoise, was obviously well warmed up as he easily won all 3 distances with Davin Power also wining a prize.

There was a great bbq (indoors!) afterwards with plenty of food and spotprizes and so the rain didn’t dampen the spirits of anyone.
