12th April 2010 - Podium finish at Waterford 4mile road race There was a huge entry of almost 350 runners in the Alfie Hale and Adidas 4mile road race which took place in Waterford on Easter Sunday morning. The race started at the train station and ran along the quay and around town to finish at the RSC track. It was a very fast and flat course with perfect conditions which resulted in some very fast times, with both the male and female records broken on the day. Darryl Hale had a brilliant race to finish 29th overall in 23.32, also picking up the prize for 1st over 45 male. Pauline Lambe was just behind in 31st place overall, also having an excellent race to finish in 23.38mins to claim 3rd female overall. John Brennan was next home in 27.21mins with Siobhán Kennedy, who has not been running since Christmas due to an injury, surprised herself with a brilliant race to finish in 28.55mins. Simone Giorgi, who has only recently recovered from the Rome marathon (which he did in just over 4hrs) was next home in 29.16mins with Ger Hearne just behind in 29.31. Jenny Kervick was delighted with her race to finish in 29.45 with Bruce Wardrop crossing the line in 30.07. Norma Goggin was thrilled with her race to finish in 30.56 with Dave Forristal a few seconds behind in 31.09. Helen Whyte ran faster than she had anticipated to finish in 31.39 with Vinny Ryan making his comeback to finish in 33.29. Olive O’Brien was next home in 38.50. A very enjoyable and well organised race. |
