23rd Jan 2010 Club Duathlon It was very foggy in the morning with icy patches on the road but we were lucky that it had cleared by the time we started the race. Tom Brennan had taken a fall off his bike on route to Fenor before the race (but was ok to race) so everyone was very cautious. It was still quite chilly though which was a shock to Roisín O’Grady who had been very optimistic in shorts in t-shirt for the run. Stephen Doyle was off to a bad start as he forgot his helmet and neither of 2 spare helmets would fit him so he had to ring someone to bring his own helmet out to him. Martin Kirwan and Barry Lambe were the 1st 2 back after the first run, with a good lead on Davin Power and Andrew Hickey who were next in. But the cycle changed things a bit with Martin maintaining his lead but also saw Davin Power move to 2nd place and Stephen Butler progress to 3rd place heading out on the 2nd run with Barry Lambe in hot pursuit. Martin won the race in 1.04.34 with Davin Power next home in 1.07.33. Stephen couldn’t hold off Barry on the run so after a tough battle, had to settle for 4th place as Barry came home 3rd in 1.09.45. Siobhán Dunphy had a great 1st run and very strong bike which ensured her 1st place in the females to finish in 1.20.18, 11the overall. Norma Goggin finished 2nd female in 1.27.10 with Catherine Galvin 3rd in 1.36.30. Barry Lambe had obviously put his body under lot of pressure as, when he arrived back to Waterford after the race, he realised he had forgotten to put his bike and other bits into his car and had left them sitting against a wall in Fenor. It can happen to the best of us… |
