TRIATHLON RACE 2010 - INFORMATION The Waterford Triathlon (hosted by the Waterford Tri Club) takes place in the coastal village of Dunmore East (approx 8miles from Waterford City) on Saturday 19th June 2010. It consists of a 750m sea swim, 20K bike and 7K run. This race will open for entry on Sunday February 28th at 12 Noon. On this date, 300 individual places will be opened along with 10 junior places as well as 30 relay teams. On Thursday 18th March at 12 Noon, a further 200 individual places will be made available. The Dunmore East triathlon is open for entry (36 Euro). To Enter This Race, Click on the Active Europe Link Below: If you are not a Triathlon Ireland member, you will require a one day license to compete in this event. One day licenses must be purchased from the Triathlon Ireland website at least one week in advance of the event. RACE DIRECTIONS: Coming from Cork, Kerry or Youghal: If coming from any of these places, go to Waterford City. At the Reginald's Tower, take first right, signposted Dunmore East/ Waterford Regional Hospital. Follow this road straight for about 8 miles and follow all signposts to Dunmore East. Coming from Dublin, Limerick, Kilkenny, Wicklow, Wexford or Rosslare: Go to Waterford City. Drive along the left of the Quays. At the Reginald's Tower, take first left, signposted Dunmore East/ Waterford Regional Hospital. Follow this road for 8 miles and follow all signposts to Dunmore East. The race is scheduled to start at 12:00 on the day. There will be pre race registration the night before and on the morning before the race itself. All the information you need about Dunmore East can be found on www.waterford-dunmore.com . Although the city is only a 20min drive away, it is advisable for all those seeking accommodation to do so in Dunmore East. There will be plenty of post race entertainment and the village itself has lots of good restaurants, bars and live music. The course is set in a very scenic location and is suitable for any beginner yet would be considered a challenge to the elite athlete also.

This is the map of the course. The cycle route is an out and back course as indicated by the blue line. The red line indicates the run which is a 7km loop course. Brief Course Description Swim The 750m sea swim will take place in Dunmore East Bay and will have a beach start. The bay is sheltered with little or no waves and there is usually no swell during mid summer. The bay is surrounded by cliffs which offer great views for spectators. Cycle The transition area will be in a car park easily accessible via a path connected to the smaller of the two beaches where the swim exit will be. The 20Km cycle will be an ‘out and back’ route on the main Dunmore to Waterford road. This is an undulating road with a good surface. Run The 7km circuit run starts with a testing ‘climb’ followed by a run through some country roads before returning to the main Dunmore road for the home straight. The finish will be in the village of Dunmore East. |
