2006 - A Year in Review - 2nd Best in Country A year in review and what a year! The Club which was only formed in 2004 was ranked an amazing 2nd best overall out of 30 clubs last year. This was an astonishing feat considering there were only 10 members at the start of the year and we had 25 towards the end of the year. The following athletes trained hard and travelled all over Ireland and abroad to compete. Athlete Profiles Vincent Ryan was the first of the Club to compete when he did a duathlon in Limerick, his first time doing one. He spent the rest of the season training for a rowing and sailing competition in Italy where he represented his country, with his team finishing 8th out of 16. Noel Dillon started his season with a 10mile road race in Ballycotton on a frosty February morning. He was the first of the club to compete in a Triathlon last season where he did an amazing 12 races in total. His best time for Olympic distance was in Lough Neagh in 2hrs 33mins. His most noteable race was in San Francisco where he completed the Escape from Alcatraz triathlon in 3hrs 14mins. He finished off his season by running 3hrs 36mins in the Dublin City Marathon. Martin Mizgajski fulfilled his dream by completing his first Ironman. He travelled to Lanzarote to do this 3.8k swim, 180k cycle, 42k run, where he had to contend with 75kph gusts of wind and blistering heat. He had a great race to finish in 11hrs 4mins, 6th in his age-group. Declan McGrath completed 7 races last season, a brilliant achievement considering it was his first season doing triathlons, his best Olympic distance time being 2hrs 49mins in Dublin. Colm Long only started doing triathlons last season and did 3 races starting with Sprint distance and finishing in Kenmare doing the Half Ironman in 6hrs 5mins which was a great achievement. We will also be having an Open Day in February where everyone is invited to come to, where there will be information and advice on anything to do with Triathlon. More details will follow soon. |
